A Little About Her
​
Meltem is a 1986 graduate of Hacettepe University, Ankara, Turkey’s National State Theatre Conservatory. After graduation, she began working as an actress and assistant director for the Turkish State Theatre in Bursa for two seasons. Since 1988, she has been an actress, assistant director, and festival coordinator for the Turkish State Theatre in Ankara.
Her 30-year award-winning career have been including roles in plays; Kısmet by E.Gökgücü, The White Sheep of the Family by L.du Garde, Peach by J.H Beith, Black Comedy by P.Shaffer, The Merchant of Venice by W.Shakespeare at the Bursa National State Theatre. She has enjoyed working with international directors such as Euan Smith, David Lavaux, William Gaskill, Basil Coleman, Andrei Borisov, David Kaplan, and Jason Hale who directed Glass Menagerie and is currently holding the chair of the Theatre Department of Bilkent University.
In addition to her work for the Turkish National State Theatre, she has attended the Liverpool BrouHaHa Festival with her one-woman play Anrico and in Berlin at Shaubuhne Theatre Festival with Deers Curse and In Boston Provincetown Tennessee Williams Theatre Festival as Cleopatra in Antony and Cleopatra by Shakespeare. In television, Meltem is known for as voice-over work for Vanessa Redgrave and many other well-known actresses alongside the drama series.
She is one of the founders of the Ankara State Theatre’s “International Children's Theatre Festival. She was the General Secretary of TOBAV (Theatre Opera and Ballet Members Foundation) for many years as well as taking place in “International Children's Theatre Festivals” as a curator 10 years.
She has worked as a General Secretary of TOBAV (Theatre, Opera and Ballet Members Foundation) for 10 years. Alongside the international festivals, meetings and training programs she had worked for EU projects in the artistic and creative fields. She performed the queen of Hattusha in “Hattusha. A Musical Performance”, in the EU Project KALEIDOSCOPEUROPE which has been represented in Evora,Portugal besides the many other cities.
Meltem, who also has an NLP training, has been working voluntarily for disadvantaged and disabled groups in international programs with her 20 years of experience in social responsibility projects as a General Art Director.
She has won the “The Match Girl” award, which is given by the Christian Andersen Theatre in Lublin – Poland for lighting up the relationship between Turkish and Polish Children's Theatre field.
She has also translated some of the poems of T. Williams and one-act plays such as “I Can’t Imagine Tomorrow“ and “The Baby Doll” and many of his poems.
She is celebrating the 30th year of her acting career and sharing her experiences with the young people.
As a teacher of acting, she has taught for 8 years at Bilkent University, Faculty of Music and Performing Arts, one of Turkey’s top actor training programs.
